Application requirements

SODA requires a digital application including:

1. A paragraph summary of why you want to come to SODA.

2. What you would like to achieve during your residency.

3. The dates and duration of your stay (up to 6 weeks).

4. Ten digital images of your work.

5.  A single page Curriculum Vitae.

6. The email addresses of two ceramic artist referees.

7.  Optional A summary of a workshop and digital presentation that you may like to present during your stay. This could include your own ceramic processes. The presentation may show your artistic journey and feature your own culture and community.

8. Please indicate whether you are coming alone, or with a partner, or family.

You will first receive notification that we have received your application, and another email in due course if your application is successful or unsuccessful. Please indicate should you require written confirmation for grant or scholarship application purposes.

EXPENSES/COSTS INCURRED

  • Artists are required to pay $250 PER WEEK.  This covers self contained apartment accommodation and airport pick up/drop off. Arrival/departure times must be during reasonable day light hours. A taxi can be ordered for inconvenient hours at visiting Artists expense.
  • Artists are required to pay $55.00 per week to cover the rent of their allocated studio space. This also covers the use of all common workshop equipment and facilities belonging to SODA. Accommodation and studio rent are to be paid in full on arrival.
  • Visiting artists are required to cover all consumables including firing expenses, art materials and living expenses. All outstanding costs must be paid before departure.
  • If artists come with/as a couple, an extra $50 a week will be charged for accommodation. SODA’s apartment is a single room apartment with a double bed suited to one artist at a time. Please enquire if you would like options for accommodation off campus located nearby to accommodate a family.

RENTAL PAYMENT

Artists are required to pay in advance two weeks rent of AU$500.00 before the commencement of the residency. This advanced payment is required on confirmation of the residency to guarantee a place. It is a requirement that the visiting artist notifies SODA in writing at least 3 months prior to the commencement of the residency to cancel the residency.  In the event that notification of cancellation has not been made within 3 months, the $500AU advanced rent payment will not be reimbursed.

BOND

The artist is required to pay AU$150 bond to SODA upon arrival which will cover breakages and any outstanding consumable costs. This will be reimbursed at the end of the residency if no costs are incurred and apartment and studio facilities are left in good working order.

INSURANCE

Visiting artists are responsible for their personal insurance during their stay at SODA.
